Application Instructions

1. Online Form

When completing the online application below, you must complete the form in its entirety and then click submit.

2. Application Fee

For the application fee, you may send a check or money order to the Admissions Office, HGST, 2501 Central Parkway, Suite A19, Houston, TX, 77092, or call 1-877-TRY-HGST to pay by credit card. Your application will not be processed until payment is made.

Application Deadlines

Submit all application materials by the following dates:

Master’s Degrees: 
   Fall 2010 - August 2, 2010
      - Enrollment Deposit waived for submitted application prior to July 1  
  Spring 2011 - December 15, 2010
      - Enrollment Deposit waived for submitted application prior to November 15  


Doctor of Ministry:
   At least three months prior to the beginning of a D.Min. term

4. Official Transcripts

Have official transcripts of all college and university work sent directly to HGST from each college or university previously attended.
5. International Transcripts

International official transcripts must be sent directly to an independent evaluation agency. A Detailed Evaluation of Coursework report will be sent from the agency to HGST. (HGST does not pay for this service.) Additional official transcripts from the international institution do not need to be sent to HGST. HGST accepts detailed evaluations from the following agency:

6. Reference Evaluations

Complete the top portion of each Reference Evaluation Form and deliver to the person providing the evaluation.

Have the evaluator mail the form directly to HGST.
7. Church Endorsement Form (Doctor of Ministry)

Applicants to the D.Min. program must be endorsed by their church during a business meeting, which includes the church’s recommendation for consideration of the applicant as a prospective Doctor of Ministry student of this graduate school. The Church Endorsement Form should be signed and dated by a church official and sent directly to HGST.

8. Standardized Tests

Complete the following exams as required, having official scores sent directly to HGST by the testing agency.

• Graduate Record Exam (GRE) required for Master of Arts in Counseling
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) required for those whom English is not their first language.
9. Essay in English

Complete the required essay portion of the application according to the following directions:

Master’s Degrees:

Write a personal essay of 1000-2000 words in English (double spaced) in Microsoft Word, which includes:

• an account of your relationship with God/Jesus Christ
• a narrative of your Christian life and service.
• your reasons for pursuing or continuing theological education, including your vision and call to ministry and why you believe you will benefit from seminary studies.
• six of your basic theological beliefs


Doctor of Ministry:

Write a personal essay, five pages in length, double-spaced in Microsoft Word, in academic style, which includes:

• an autobiography
• a brief personality sketch
• a description of vocational experience and ministry intentions
• a personal view of Christian ministry
